Mortalani Map (3 September 2017)

Had a few days where I was too busy at work to set aside time to work on this. Today was a day off, though, so I was able to implement a few things.

Changed the land contours quite a bit in the area of Scandinavia. Apparently the time I'm working with was one in which the rising sea levels had transgressed across a corridor in the center part of modern-day Sweden, pouring salt water into the former Baltic Lake. So the land-forms in that area are particularly weird in this era, with some places that are now above water actually under water back then. Has to do with the fact that the land was still rebounding from being buried under two miles of ice.

Speaking of which, I added the Ice, or what was left of it in this era.

Rivers are a problem. It's very difficult to pick out the present-day course of rivers on a Google Earth image at this resolution. So I went to find a nicely detailed map of European rivers - not the same scale or even the same projection as what I'm using, but close enough with a little bit of scaling and rotation. I'm not simply tracing water-courses anyway, I just want to have a decent approximation of where the modern-day rivers are, so I can avoid going too far off track for my ancient era. I've done a bunch of rivers in Britain - plenty more to do in the regions that are still land today, and then I'll sketch some plausible rivers for Doggerland and the other areas that are currently below sea level. Might get that part finished tomorrow, on the holiday.
